Cindy at Live a Colorful Life writes one of my favorite blogs, and when she wrote this post about accountability in quilting, it struck a chord with me. She and some of her friends decided that a collaborative effort might help keep each other accountable for the multitude of projects they have started but not finished (sound familiar?) Choose Your Own Block-Along will link up weekly on Mondays, and I chose to join in the fun.
Math Class Quilt
I normally don't buy quilt kits, but when I saw this Math Class Quilt pattern by Sweetwater, I loved the name, the idea, and the fabrics. Fabric Buffet had the best price, so I sprung for it.
The fabrics - oh I love them. Moda's Elementary by Sweetwater has names like Geometry, Equations, Art Class, Measure Up, Biology and colors of blue, tan, cream, and black.
Numbers and equations!
This will be the perfect Christmas gift for my daughter. Although she works in the field of oil and gas exploration and production as an Engineering/Geoscience Technician, she was a whiz in mathematics and majored in those studies for awhile in college. She and I are nerd-ish in our shared love of all things related to math (we celebrate Pi Day), so this will be the perfect Christmas gift for her.
The diagram shows a different border than the black, but I'm sticking with black - I think it makes the quilt. The quilt finishes at 66x71, so it should make a great TV watching quilt for her.
I started cutting yesterday afternoon and decided to put together a few blocks so I could post on today's link-up. Be sure and check out the other blogs!
Hi Linda! What a great idea and what a fabulous quilt! I am sure your daughter will be delighted with it! I love the Sweetwater fabrics! :) x
ReplyDeleteHi Christine - apparently this comment didn't publish before the one you made below, but thanks!
DeleteI am so glad you are joining our fun!! It's going to be great seeing everyone's projects and progress. I'm already loving your blocks!! My first fabric obsession was Sweetwater's Pure collection. I can't wait to see your new blocks next week :-)!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle! I just looked at Pure - love!
DeleteThat's going to be a pretty quilt! I like the colors. I think the green/blue goes very well with brown. I'm so glad that most of the US fabrics are not available here. I'd have a house full of stash!
ReplyDeleteLol Krisell - that is a problem with me! :)
DeleteHello Linda.... I did think I had already left you a comment but maybe it didn't register! Anyway, I think this is a great idea and I love your blocks so far!! I really love the collections of fabrics that Sweetwater design, they are beautiful! I made a quilt last year from one of their fabric collections called 'Sunkissed' and it remains one of my favourite quilts!! What a lovely gift for your daughter, she is going to love it!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Christine! I just did a search on your blog and found that beautiful quilt!
DeleteI LOVE your blocks, dear Linda!!
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics are so lovely...
Hugs
Deborah
Deborah that is so sweet - thank you. :)
DeleteWhat a lovely idea for your daughter - even nerd maths types need quilts and it's so special that someone has designed a quilt for you. Love the material and I'm sure it's going to come up a treat.
ReplyDeleteLol on nerd math types! :) Thanks Dawn.
DeleteYour blocks look great! And I agree with the others, the colors in this collection work very nicely together (you gotta love Sweetwater!!)
ReplyDeleteAmy thanks! Yes I love pretty much anything Sweetwater puts out there. ;)
