OMG for October - Herringbone Baby Quilt Repeat

This month I'm working on a "repeat" quilt. This quilt was first made in May 2017, when my great niece asked me to make a baby quilt to gift to a friend. However, her friend recently lost the quilt while she was visiting a zoo! My great niece said her friend was heartbroken and asked if I could attempt to recreate it. Fortunately I still had some of the original fabrics, so away I went!

As I described in this post, I used the tutorial by Jenny of Missouri Star Quilt Company and made HSTs galore. I had to change a few fabrics, but overall the colors and placement will be as true to the original as I can get.

Here is the original quilt. Now that I've sewn the HSTs together in strips, I am ready to sew the strips together. I keep getting interrupted by life! But I intend to finish this quilt in the next 10 days (fingers crossed), so I can move on to Christmas sewing!

To challenge myself, I am linking to Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal.

  1. She lost it while visiting the zoo? I don’t think I have ever heard anything like that before. Lovely, as always Linda. I have seen so many fabulous fall and Halloween fabrics, that I am really tempted to try to make a quilt. When I’ve tried in the past, I did squares, and even though I measured them carefully, cut them carefully, they matched perfectly in the stack, I couldn’t sew them together worth a darn. (A little sewing pun.)

    1. I know, that was a very unusual story! Hey I still have trouble sewing squares together. My points are rarely perfect. ;) I still hope you will take a quilting class sometime (since I'm not there to help you - lol!)

  2. It must have been devastating for her to lose that special quilt (although I’m glad she was using it). Yea for you being able to replace it with a similar one. I hope that whatever happened to that other quilt, somehow another little kiddie will be cuddled by it.)

    1. Yes I was glad she was using it also! My great niece said it was in every photo she saw, so I guess she really liked it. I thought the very same thing about hoping some other child got to enjoy it. :)
