Cross Quilt Flimsy Progress

This pattern is actually called a "Plus" quilt, but my purpose for it is to become a prayer quilt for my niece, so I am terming it a "Cross" quilt. The front (flimsy) is finally pieced, and I am awaiting inspiration for a border. The pattern I (mostly) followed is Plus Quilt by Kelly at Jeliquilts. I love her patterns!

I am too embarrassed to tell you how long it took to choose fabrics and how many times I pulled fabrics only to put them away and start all over. I am hoping to finish it up by next week and mail it to my niece. I'll post the final result with more details!

Buddy just wants me to be done with it so he can go rest in his "TV" chair.

  1. Pretty colors Linda. I am sure the recipient will love this. I love the shades of purple (or is it fuschia?) That might be nice for the border. How big is this? I can't tell but it looks like the blocks making the pluses are large-ish? I am hoping to start a plus quilt soon.... I have all the fabrics - just need to get going on it.

    1. Right now it's about 40x40 and the individual blocks are 4 inches. Thanks for the suggestion - now I am thinking about using the purple/fuchsia as a narrow outline then put a white border around and finish with a neutral binding.

  2. It is looking lovely Linda! My dogs do that too.... they seem to sigh and look at me saying 'when are we moving to the comfy chairs?' Have a lovely day! Christine x

    1. Dawn, how sweet of you to remember. It's actually a different niece! The niece that was sent my rainbow quilt is doing well and seems to have come through her chemo just fine. The niece for whom I am making this quilt underwent a mastectomy last month and is facing treatment now.

  4. I just read your reply to the comment above, and want to say I am so sorry to hear your niece is going through this. A cancer diagnosis is so hard. Your quilt for her is just lovely! I loved seeing it on Instagram the other day - such pretty colors. There nothing better than a quilty hug.

  5. Oh, Linda, I'm sure your niece will appreciate this so much. To be wrapped in a quilt and prayers will be such a comfort to her through treatment. I love the colors and scale of the design. I'm looking forward to seeing how you finish it. I'm glad to know there's someone else who dithers over fabric selection. :)

    1. Thank you Janine - I really want to finish up this week, and I just finished taking out seams on a border I sewed on and didn't like!
